When do I need a roadworthy certificate (safety certificate) in QLD?

How long does a Roadworthy Certificate (Safety Certificate) last?
Roadworthy Certificates (Safety Certificates) are valid for 2,000km or two months, whichever comes first.
What if my vehicle fails a Roadworthy Inspection?
If your vehicle fails the roadworthy inspection, you have up to 14 days to rectify the issue/s and return for the second inspection. If you fail to return within the 14 day mark, you will have to under go a new inspection.
What is a Roadworthy Certificate (Safety Certificate)?
If you want to sell your car, transfer its title or re-register it in Queensland, you’re going to need a Roadworthy certificate. This type of safety certificate shows the vehicle is safe for use and in good operational order. TR Motors in Coolum Beach is an approved Roadworthy and pre-purchase inspection site. How much does a Roadworthy Certificate (Safety Certificate) cost in QLD?
Roadworthy Certificates are a *fixed government fee of $89.85 for private light vehicles.
When do I NOT need a Roadworthy Certificate (Safety Certificate)?
- Receiving a vehicle under a beneficiary of a deceased estate
- Transferring a vehicle between spouses (including separated married couples and registered partners – until such time that the divorce or application to end the registered relationship is finalised).

Roadworthy Certificates ensure the car passes a QLD government safety check however, it doesn't ensure your car is running well and has no other mechanical issues. We encourage pre-purchase inspections even for vehicles that have a current Roadworthy Certificate.
